Somebody’s taking this whole pinewood derby thing way too seriously.

Holy crap! You do that?!?!?!
I would have wanted to leave it in wood finish so people wouldn’t confuse it for a die cast. That’s seriously impressive!

Not me, it’s a guy in Japan, I was pretty amazed at the level people focus on perfecting a skill there.

I think this was from Thailand actually. Still, there are some great artisans in many of the Asian countries.

Oh ok, I used to live in Japan and this kind of thing is pretty common, they have amazing hobby stores and the model industry is obvious. Combine that with the fact that woodworking skills have been kept in Asia for much longer, I can’t be too surprised.

I used to go to the hobby section of The Loft and Tokyu Hands and just look at all the cool stuff, then realize I would never sit down and do all of that. I have a few models I have never built including a laser cut metal Tiger Moth from the Ghibli museum. Maybe I could do that now, I wonder if I could find it...

That’s quite unreal. I started to scroll down this page going “OK, chunk of wood, and some drawings... oh, gonna carve it out of the block of wood... nice way of going about following the car’s details... very well done windows... HOLY FUCK LOOK AT THOSE WHEELS
HOW DOES ANYONE GET THAT LEVEL OF DETAIL ON A TINY PIECE OF WOOD.”

Wow, this is cool. If I had the skill to do this, it would be neat to make one for each car I’ve owned and add a new one each time I get a new car...
